Keeping each shoot fresh with ideas starts long before the actual shoot takes place. I hardly ever take on a shoot where I am actually conducting the shoot within a few days of the initial contact with a model. I take time to scout a location that is different from previous locations. I look at the time of day we will be shooting so I can see where the sun is placed in the sky and how that affects my exposure as well as making sure the area chosen is not cluttered, I also take time to examine the location for angles to shoot, different spots I can shoot where I get the best light. I then come back to the home studio and work everything I have encountered at the location into a definate plan, but always allowing for expetions. I usually plan a shoot three to four weeks or more ahead.
